Walking Liberty Half Dollars
1941-47 Walking Liberty "Short Set" MS65 PCGS. This is the classic 20 piece "Short Set" of Walking Liberty half dollars, each graded MS65 PCGS. The 20 coins are fully brilliant and highly lustrous, mostly untoned, although a few have faint champagne toning. The coins vary from average to above average design definition.
The current generation of collectors may have heard the term "short set" without understanding where that term came about. Back in the old days before slabs, most collectors housed their coins in albums. The leading album manufacturer was Whitman, and they produced albums with two, three, or four pages. Because the complete set of Walkers required more than four pages, they issued two albums: one for 1916 to 1940, and the second for 1941 to 1947. Some collectors only purchased the second album, and this was called the "short set."
