Liberty Quarter Eagles
1859-S $2 1/2 AU58 NGC. The mintage for the 1859-S is considerably lower than its two S-mint predecessors. Only 15,200 pieces were struck, and the issue circulated extensively. Mint or nearly Uncirculated survivors are truly rare. All devices are strongly rendered with trivial friction. Light marks are scattered over bright yellow-gold surfaces with much frosty luster that remains. Census: 27 in 58 (1 in 58+), 8 finer (9/17).
