Liberty Double Eagles
1890-S $20 MS63 PCGS. From a mintage of 802,750 coins, the 1890-S represents the most collectible of the three double eagle issues for the year. Yet, examples are rarely seen in MS64 and they are very scarce at this grade level. Frosty fields house strongly struck motifs that show particularly bold detail on the stars, curls, and eagle's neck. Scattered grazes and a mark under the eye explain the technical assessment.
