1849 $5 Moffat & Co. Five Dollar Fine 15 PCGS. K-4a, R.4. A die break through E DO is diagnostic of late die state examples. Moffat five dollar gold pieces were among the most reputable private issues circulating in the Western region of this country during the early days of the California Gold Rush. Today, survivors are highly prized for their historical and numismatic significance. This well-worn five is mostly orange-gold with several cobalt-blue and violet alloy spots on each side.
