Patterns
1870 10C Standard Silver Ten Cents, Judd-846, Pollock-945, Low R.7, PR64 Red and Brown PCGS. The obverse features a head of Liberty with no stars on the tiara, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA above, and the motto on a scroll below. The reverse has the date and denomination encircled by an open agricultural wreath, with STANDARD above. Struck in copper with a plain edge. The silver strikings are the commonly encountered examples of this pattern, while the copper and aluminum pieces are scarce. Only a half dozen are believed extant of each of these types -- in both metals and in reeded edge and plain edge formats. The Red and Brown designation is correct, but what needs to be noted is each side is uniform in color with even mellowing. The reverse is a couple of shades deeper in color than the obverse. Few surface imperfections are seen.
