Commemorative Medals, Foreign, Italy, Bologna, Cardinal Luigi Capponi (1582–1659), laying the first stone for the new chapels at the Church of Santa Maria Lacrimosa degli Alemanni, bronze medal, unsigned, 1619, * ET LAPIS I TE VOCABITVR DOMVS DEI, half-length bust of the Cardinal l., blessing the stone, rev. legend around, PAVLI V ..., and in 10 lines in centre, IN MARIAM VIRGINEM ...., 92mm. Luigi Capponi (1582–1659) was elevated to Cardinal in 1608 and in 1619 was Cardinal-Deacon of Sant'Angelo in Pescheria in Rome. The chapels of the Saints Teresa and Joseph were built between 1619-1625 and in 1621 Capponi was appointed Archbishop Emeritus of Ravenna. Today only the bell tower of the Alemanni church remains.
