PTOLEMAIC KINGS OF EGYPT. Arsinoe II, wife of Ptolemy II, died 270 BC. Octodrachm (Gold, 27 mm, 16.85 g, 12 h), struck under Ptolemy VI and Ptolemy VIII, 180-116, Alexandreia. Diademed and veiled head of Arsinoë II to right, wearing stephane; in field to left, [K]. Rev. [ΑΡΣ]ΙΝΟΗΣ ΦΙΛΑ[ΔΕΛΦΟΥ] Double cornucopiae. SNG Copenhagen 322. Svoronos 1498. Cut almost in half in antiquity, otherwise, good very fine.
This octodrachm was cut almost in half in antiquity. The weight of 16.85 g of the present, larger fragment indicates, however, that the intention can not have been to create two gold tetradrachms - it amounts to roughly 60 % of the full octodrachm weight of 27.8 g.
