GALATIA. Pessinus. Septimius Severus, 193-211. Tetrassarion (Orichalcum, 30 mm, 16.36 g, 1 h). Laureate bust of Septimius Severus to left, with aegis on shoulder. Rev. •ΓAΛ•TOΛ•ΠECCINOYNTIWN Fortuna standing facing, head to left, holding rudder in right hand and cornucopia in left. CNG E-Auction 196 (2008), 116. SNG Copenhagen -. SNG Paris -. SNG von Aulock -. Extremely rare, possibly the second example known. Very well centered and with an interesting reverse legend. Very fine.

The reverse legend translates as: '(coin of) the Galatian Tolistobogii, the people of Pessinus'. The Tolistobogii were one of the Celtic tribes that migrated to central Asia Minor in the 3rd century BC, an area which was consequently named after its Gaulish inhabitants.
