An Early Great War 'Mons' Casualty Trio awarded to Private Samuel Spencer, 1st Battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers, killed in action on 22 September 1914 during the First Battle of the Marne, comprising: 1914 Star with clasp '5th Aug. – 22nd Nov. 1914' (7268 Pte S. Spencer. 1/R. Sc: Fus.), official correction to initial in naming; British War and Victory Medals (7268 Pte. S. Spencer. R. S. Fus); Group mounted on board for display, toned, the first very fine, remainder extremely fine (3). Private Sam Spencer, husband of Mrs Edith Spencer, of 17 Salisbury Street, Shipley, Yorkshire, was born in Bradford, and was killed in action on 22 September 1914. His name is commemorated at the La Ferte-Sous-Jouarre Memorial.
