Livia, wife of Augustus (Augusta 14-29 AD). AE 23 mm. Augusta mint, Cilicia. Struck under Nero, 67-8 AD. Obv. IOYΛIA ΣEBAΣTH. Draped bust right. Rev. AYΓOYΣTANΩN [ ]. Tyche of Augusta seated right on throne decorated with tendrils, holding grain ears; at feet, river-god Sarus swimming right. RPC 4013. Cf. SNG France 1893. Cf. SNG Levante 1238. AE. g. 9.80 RR. Very rare. Dark green patina. Some oxidations on reverse, otherwise good VF.
There is something of a problem in dating the coins of Augusta which depict Livia. The type of Livia/Tyche seated right would naturally have been classified with the coins of Tiberius/Livia, but the appearance of a piece with year 48 suggest that the type should be placed under Nero.
