Vitellius (69 AD). AE As, Spanish mint (Tarraco?). Struck c. January-June 69 AD. Obv. A VITELLIVS IMP GERMAN. Laureate head left, [globe] at point of bust. Rev. CONSENSUS EXERCITVVM. Mars, helmeted, naked except for cloak floating behind him, advancing left, holding spear in right hand and aquila with vexillum in left. RIC 40 var. (SC across reverse field). C. 25 (Fr. 15) var. (same). AE. g. 13.22 mm. 28.00 RR. Very rare variety. An outstanding example, with a wonderful Spanish-style portrait. Superb deep olive-green patina. Good VF.
