Lucilla was the second daughter of Marcus Aurelius and Faustina II when her father succeeded to Antoninus Pius in 161, Lucilla-just twelve years old- was bethroted to his co-heir Lucius Verus, but the marriage was postponed until 164, when she was fifteen. At that moment Verus was leading a campaign against the Parthians, in Asia Minor, so she sailed east and he married her at Ephesus. After the unforeseen death of Verus in 169, the young widow was remarried to an aged senator and she engaged in frequent infidelities. In 183 Lucilla, discovered her role in a plot to assassinate her brother Commodus, was banished to Capri where she was executed. She was thirty four years old.
