China Deutsch-Asiatische Bank Peking 5 Taels 1.3.1907 Pick S280r Remainder. A rare note that is known only in remainder form on this highly desirable bank. The Deutsch-Asiatische Bank was the first large non-British financial institution to set up residency in China. The note in this lot is from the Peking branch with the main branch located in Shanghai. This bank would go on to underwrite Chinese Imperial loans to the tune of 32 million British pounds. It also invested in new railroads and mining interests that were within the German sphere of influence in China. The circulation for this bank was controlled by the German government in Berlin and was never large. World War I sounded the death knell for this bank, but it lives on today in the collections and want lists of dedicated paper money collectors.
