Ming Rebels. Zhang Xianzhong (1644-1647) gold Medal ND VF, Chengdu mint?, H-Unlisted, Jen-629 (ER). 49mm, 49.52g. Xi Wang Shang Gong / uninscribed reverse. An extremely rare medal awarded within the Da Shun dynasty for merit, the gold and silver for these issues was reputedly taken from local statues and treasures from around Chengdu that were "appropriated" and then melted down for their precious metal content. The surfaces are typically porous with reddish tone resulting from the copper in the alloy.
