ISLANDS OFF THRACE, Thasos. Circa 500-463 BC. Stater (Silver, 20 mm, 9.63 g), c. 500-480 BC. Ithyphallic satyr advancing to right, carrying protesting nymph. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square. Le Rider, Thasiennes 2. SNG Copenhagen 1009. Toned and nicely centered. Very fine.

The heads of the satyr and the nymph are surprisingly expressive for this usual crudely done issue: they seem to be having a joke together!.
