SELEUKID KINGS OF SYRIA. Seleukos I Nikator, 312-281 BC. Tetradrachn (Silver, plated, 25 mm, 14.43 g, 12 h), imitating "Susa", c. 305-295 BC. Bust of Alexander the Great as Dionysos to right, wearing helmet covered with a panther skin and adorned with a bull's horn and ear, and with a panther skin tied around his shoulders. Rev. ΒΑΣΛΕΩΣ ΣΕΛΕΥΚΟΥ (sic!) Nike walking to right, placing wreath on trophy of arms to right; to left and right of Nike, monogram. Cf. ESM 417. SC 173.12. Carefully plated, and beautifully made; lacking the breaks in the plating, which are now present, this coin would have been an unusually successful forgery . Some breaks in the plating, minor scratches and marks, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
