Michael VIII Palaeologus, as Emperor of Nicaea, 1258-1261. Hyperpyron (Gold, 24 mm, 4.02 g, 6 h), Constantinople, 1261-1282. The Virgin orans within city walls furnished with six groups of towers. Rev. St. Michael on left presenting kneeling emperor to Christ enthroned on right, holding scroll. SB 2242. Nicely toned. Some areas of weak striking as usual, otherwise. Good very fine.
