Hadrian. AD 117-138. AV Aureus (21mm, 6.40 g, 6h). Indian imitation. Uncertain mint. Blundered legend, laureate head left / Blundered legend, two female figures standing facing, heads vis-à-vis, holding a signum between them with their inner hands and a wreath (or patera) with their outer hands. Cf. RIC –; cf. Calicó –; Turner –. VF, light scrapes below the portrait. The consignor attributed this imitation to Antoninus Pius, but the left-facing portrait is more reminiscent of Hadrian.
