QU'AITI STATE OF HADHRAMAUT: Saleh 'Ubayd b. Abdat, 1920-1939, AR 8 khumsi, al-Gurfah, AH1344, KM-102, NGC graded MS63. 'Umar b. 'Ubayd Bin 'Abdat & his brother Salih b. 'Ubayd Bin 'Abdat, from an expatriate family that had made a fortune in Singapore and Java, issued silver coins struck at the Heaton mint, Birmingham to bolster thier claims to statehood. These were issued in denominations of four, eight, fifteen, thirty, forty-five and sixty 'khumsiyyah' (chomsihs) with a ratio of one hundred and twenty of 'khumsiyyah' to the Maria Theresa 'riyal'. This had followed the seizure of a small town in Wadi Hadhramaut called al-Ghurfah from the Ba Abbad clan in AH1344 (1925/26), in a move to declare a state independent of the authority of their traditional overlord, the Kathiri Sultan of Seiyun. The "Bin 'Abdat" brothers saga came to an end when Salih b. 'Ubayd Bin 'Abdat's son, who took control after the death of his father and uncle, was deposed by British Indian troops in 1945 while delivering famine relief.

Estimate: 100-150 USD
