TICINO: AR shooting medal, 1889, Richter-1400b, Martin-797, 46mm silver medal for the Inaugural Shooting Festival at Mendrisio, two coats-of-arms with feathered hat resting on top and radiant Swiss cross at top and laurel and oak branches in wreath around, all within double inner circle with "TIRO INAUGURALE SOCIETA' GENEROSO (rosette) MENDRISIO SETTbre 1889 (rosette)" around // three soldiers making pact with overlapping hands in middle and opposite arms thrust into air with other soldiers, foliage, and the Alps in background with "GRÜTLI 1307" above, attractive original tone, a superior example, NGC graded MS64, ex Mike Edwards Collection. The pact noted on the reverse was the Conspiracy of the Grütli in 1307, which led to Swiss Independence.
