Britain, North Eastern Region. Corieltavi. Early uninscribed issues. Ca. 50 B.C.-A.D. 1 AR unit (14 mm, 1.22 g, 6 h). South Ferriby Plain type. Boar standing right; above, ring of pellets / Horse with double forelegs right; above, large pelletal sun ring. ABC 1803; Van Arsdell 877-3; BMC 3218-27; SCBC 397. A common coin but unusually well-preserved boar, which is rare for the issue. Toned. Good very fine.

The Corieltavi were a large, wealthy northeastern tribe who were highly advanced and who, according to Van Arsdell, ""used complex privy marks on their coins for die control, weight specification and perhaps even identification of metallurgical content."" Boars feature prominently on the silver units of the Corieltavi. On this issue, the obverse die is most often seen very deteriorated resulting in either a partial or even blank obverse.
