THESSALY. Larissa. Ca. 356-342 BC. AR stater or didrachm (24mm, 12.20 gm, 12h). NGC Choice AU 4/5 - 2/5, smoothing. Head of nymph Larissa facing slightly left, hair in ampyx, wearing / ΛΑΡΙ-Σ-ΑΙΩΝ, bridled horse prancing right on exergual line. HGC 4, 409. BCD Thessaly 1160. A simply gorgeous coin, struck in sound metal from dies of lovely style and lightly toned, with a possible area of barely detectable smoothing on Larissa's cheek and forehead noted by NGC, likely accounting for the otherwise inexplicably low surface rating of 2/5.
