PONTIC KINGDOM. Mithradates VI Eupator, the Great (120-63 BC). AR tetradrachm (33mm, 17.61 gm, 11h). NGC MS 3/5 - 3/5, Fine Style, die shift. Dated, September Pontic Era 2245 (73 BC). Diademed head of Mithradates VI right, hair loose and windswept / ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΜΙΘΡΑΔΑΤΟΥ ΕΥΠΑΤΟΡΟΣ, stag standing left, head lowered, star in crescent above ΣΤΩΚ monogram in left field, date ΔΚΣ in right field, IB in exergue, all within Dionysiac wreath of ivy leaves and berries. De Callatay p. 22, D65/R1, pl. xii. Splendid portrait. Minor doubling on reverse, otherwise attractively toned and quite magnificent.
