IONIA. Phocaea. Ca. 387-326 BC. EL sixth stater or hecte (10mm, 2.57 gm). NGC AU 5/5 - 4/5. Female head (Nike or Artemis?) left, hair pulled back and gathered into topknot, seal below neck truncation, with tip of tail or one flipper visible / Quadripartite incuse square. Bodenstedt 105. BMFA 1923. One of the rarest hecte types from Phocaea, with only a single example (the Boston specimen) recorded by Bodenstedt. An exceptionally charming female head!
