Constantius II (AD 337-361). AR heavy siliqua (20mm, 3.60 gm, 12h). NGC Choice AU 5/5 - 4/5. Siscia, AD 340-350. CONSTANTI-VS P F AVG, laurel and rosette-diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Constantius right / VICTORIA AVGVSTORVM, Victory advancing left, holding vertical palm branch in right hand and a second palm over shoulder(!); SIS (pellet-in-crescent) in exergue. RIC --, cf. 165 (Victory holds palm and trophy). RSC --, cf. 234Ac (same). Very rare, possible a unique variant! Minor flan crack, otherwise possessing an exceptionally detailed strike and lovely iridescent toning.
RIC lists the varieties of Siscia mint issues of this series as (A) Victory holds wreath and palm, (B) palm and trophy, and (C) wreath and trophy. None of the varieties listed, or any example yet recorded, describes Victory as holding two palm branches, as she is definitely doing here.
