Central American Republic gold 4 Escudos 1837 CR-E XF45 NGC, San Jose mint, KM16, Fr-2. A moderately circulated example of this popular issue that features the Ceiba Tree reverse design. The surfaces as as whole show a combination of die fatigue and die rust (as made), which has resulted in significant granularity atop both sides, as well as a large die crack that runs through the date. Still rather vibrant once in hand, however, and a strong type contender that is sure to elicit increased attention from the collectors of early Latin American republic coinage.
