Kingdom bronzed-copper Specimen "Conquest or Tripoli" Medal 1821 (1836) SP64 PCGS, Wurzbach-1630. Greek War of Independence series. Commemorating the Vice-president of the Hellenic Republic and the conquest of Tripoli. Designed by Konrad Lange, 44 mm. Obv. ΠΕΤΡΟΣ ΜΑΥΡΟΜΙΧΑΛΗΣ ΑΡΧΙΣΤΡΑΤΗΓΟΣ, head of Petrobey Mavromichalis left. Rev. Ο ΔΕ ΘΕΟΣ ΗΓΕΙΤΟ ΑΥΤΩΝ, ΤΡΙΠΟΛΙΣ 23 ΣΕΠΤΕΜΒ, scene featuring two Greek soldiers supporting a faltering personification of the Hellenic Republic. Rich reddish-brown patina, with high relief and prooflike fields. A third example from the 12 medal set struck on the occasion of the marriage of King Otho and Queen Amelia in 1836. For some reason PCGS has the wrong date on the holder. It has neither the date of the Tripoli conquest (1821), nor the date of the marriage of the King and Queen (1836).
