Portuguese India - Goa. Jose I gold 4 Xerafins 1766 MS61 NGC, KM148. An unheard of quality for this rare gold coinage struck for use in Goa---the small Portuguese foothold on the west coast of India. The only other example which we have handled was an NGC VF35, which realized a hammer of $2,200 in our 2013 Long Beach sale (auction 3026, lot 25116).
