Portuguese India - Goa. Luiz I Proof Rupia 1881 PR64 NGC, KM312 (incorrect on NGC insert). Possibly struck for presentation purposes after the initial striking (1881), with vertical die polish lines appearing on both sides and a light sprinkling of die rust appearing over the effigy. The rims also appear sharp and watery gleam in the fields, largely the result of the aforementioned die lines, is rather attractive, but falls short of full proof reflectivity. With the exception of an instance of ice-blue color over Luiz's portrait, light amber tones cover the surfaces. All considered, very rare in this quality and certainly worthy of in-hand inspection.
