Mexico
Philip V gold Cob Escudo ND (1730-1731) Mo-F MS62 PCGS, Mexico City mint, KM51.2 (date unlisted), Cal-514. 3.22g. Struck just prior to the adoption of machine-struck coinage, with a bold display of the central shield and cross and a mintmark and assayer initial that are nearly fully legible. While the date is off flan, this cob can be dated by the 'F' assayer, who began working for the mint in 1730 and worked beyond the transition to milled coinage in 1732. A very rare issue, this is one of only several we have seen that date to this period, with this example being far and away the finest. An exciting issue thus for the collector of the early coinage of the Mexico City Mint.
