Catherine II silver Specimen "Accession" Medal 1762 SP62 PCGS, copy by Filippo & V. Baranov, Diakov-115.2 (R3), 65mm. Issued to commemorate Catherine II's accession to the throne on June 28, 1762. Obv. Bust of Catherine left, as Minerva, wearing armor and plumed helmet. Rev. Catherine seated, accepting a pillow with crown and scepter. A stunning design, with impeccable high-relief engraving. The strike is essentially perfect, with prooflike fields and light russet patina. Minor hairlines, and small contact marks, are noted on both sides, but these detract little from the amazing eye-appeal of this incredible medal.
