Nobel Committee Royal Academy of Sciences gold Medal (1975) MS67 NGC, 26.5mm/20g. 23K. Awarded annually to five members of the Physics and Chemistry prize selection committees. Struck in high relief, this example displays luxurious satin-textured surfaces that are exceptionally preserved. Unlike the earlier versions that were dated and marked gold on the edge, this variety shows a series of hallmarks below the winged Swedish arms on the reverse. The date, not immediately apparent, can be determined by the last stamp that on this medal reads "A10". One of the winners of the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1975 was Leo James Rainwater, an American who shared the prize for his work in determining the asymmetrical shapes of certain atomic nuclei. He also worked on the Manhattan Project during World War II.
