Denmark
Danish Asiatic Company. Christian VII Trade Piastre 1771 (struck in 1774) MS63 NGC, Kongsberg mint, KM638, Dav-411, Salvesen-51, Schou-6. The so-called "Greenland Dollar." Small crown type. Obv. Crowned arms of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. Rev. Crowned globe-shaped arms of Denmark and Norway between two pillars, with mound below containing the names of islands, ISLAND, GRONLAN, and FERO, below all is the date 1771. The small crown issue, struck in 1774, had an original mintage of 44,900 pieces, but Salvesen states that only 20 examples are known of this later striking, with 10 in museums. This amazing example exhibits full brilliant mint luster, with a sharp strike, reflective fields, only minor marks, and a few small flan flaws. The single example of this exceedingly rare issue certified by NGC, and PCGS, we consider this superb specimen to be the finest known example of the type.
