El Salvador
Republic Proof Peso 1914-C.A.M. PR64 Cameo NGC, Philadelphia mint, KM115.2. Wide Right Shoulder variety. A very rare proof striking that, despite the presence of the C.A.M. initials used by the San Salvador Mint, was struck at the technically advanced Philadelphia Mint. As a result, this example possesses extreme mirror-like reflectivity in the fields and unmistakable granular frost atop the raised surfaces. Light, even golden tone touches both sides and a few scattered ticks from handling subtract little from the appearance. Of the estimated 20 examples produced, this must certainly be among the most visually impressive, with no finer graded examples at NGC or PCGS. All considered, a highly important crown-sized 20th century rarity of Central America, likely to only grow in popularity due to its incorporation of the universally known Christopher Columbus in the piece's design.
Note: The remaining silver proof issues from this year (5 centavos, 10 centavos, 25 centavos) are being offered as a single lot in the Signature portion of this sale.
