Republic (Louis XVI) Ecu (6 Livres) 1792-A (L'An 4) MS65 PCGS, Paris mint, KM615.1, Dav-1335, Gad-55. An incredibly majestic piece, full of brilliant, blazing luster and a transfixing golden tone near the peripheries. The strike is strong with just the slightest hint of rub on the thigh and lower leg of the genius. A wholly enchanting ocular experience. Compare to a similar example, an NGC MS65 (though, in the opinion of this cataloger, the present specimen offers greater eye-appeal), which realized a hammer of $5,500 in our 2015 Long Beach auction (sale 3042, lot 29663).
