Great Britain
Edward IV (First Reign, 1461-1470) gold Ryal 1466-1469 MS62 PCGS, London mint, Light Coinage of 1464-1470, Crown mm, 7.69g, S-1950, N-1549. Edward standing facing in ship, holding sword and shield; Є on banner at stern, rose on hull / Rose in radiant sun over floriate cross, crowns and lions in angles; large trefoils in spandrels. A beautiful example of this ever-popular late-Medieval type, lustrous and attractively toned with just a hint of striking weakness in the center reverse. A few specks of casting wax are noted throughout the devices, confirming this coin has been cared for in collections for at least the past century, since that is about when making plaster casts of coins in one's collection fell out of popularity.
