Henry VIII (1509-1547) gold Angel 1544-1547 MS64 NGC, Tower mint, Third coinage of 1544-1547, Lis mm, S-2299, N-1830. A bright example of this variety defined by the annulet to the left of St. Michael's head as well as on the hull of the ship. Light tone does little to diminish the underlying luster, accentuated by an appealing surface texture, in this case the result of a lightly rusted obverse die and a heavily worked reverse die. The overall quality of the strike is superb, resulting in an especially appealing portrait of the Archangel Michael. An outstanding specimen and deserving of special attention.
