Great Britain
William & Mary 5 Guineas 1692 AU55 NGC, KM479.1, S-3422. For the collector who focuses on the history behind the coins, this is a great example, considering it comes from the only period of joint reign in British history. A relatively short reign, there were only four years of issue of the five guinea denomination during the reign of William and Mary. Unfortunately, due to the old-style NGC holder, we are unable to see the edge and determine whether this is the QVARTO or QVUINTO edge variety. Some light rub on the high points, it is clear that this piece saw a brief period in circulation. However, it apparently did not change hands frequently, as it lacks any serious flaws or post-striking marks. Overall, quite attractive, and it has acquired a lovely light red toning over the last 325 years.
