George II gold Guinea 1738 MS62 NGC, Royal mint, KM573.3, Fr-339, S-3674. A rarity in both technical quality as well as availability, this second-bust George II Guinea presents a strong portrait of the King, only lightly dappled with tone, and a reverse shield that shows a touch of central strike-softness that corresponds to the King's central features. Aside from a few minor handling instances, the surrounding fields retain a pleasing freshness often associated with finer designations, and glowing luster still showers both sides in a warm golden light. Currently the finest certified example of this date at NGC or PCGS, and a prized survivor of this short-lived type.
