George IV Proof Crown 1826 PR63 NGC, Royal mint, KM699, S-3806. Septimo edge. An exceptionally well-balanced example of this key issue, exhibiting rich gray tone over both sides that explodes into a attractive blend of purple, royal-blue, blue-green, golden-copper and harvest-orange coloration when viewed at an angle. As one might expect from a presentation striking, each detail (especially those of George's hair and the reverse arms) remains exquisitely sharp, with George's portrait in particular rising in profound high-relief from the fields. Light handling here and there blends into the surfaces and defines the grade, but an arms-length inspection certainly suggests premium quality. With an accepted mintage of only 150 pieces, this example is destined to attract significant collector attention.
