William IV gold Proof 1/2 Sovereign 1831 PR63+ Deep Cameo PCGS, Royal mint, KM716, S-3830, WR-267. Plain edge variety. A visual stunner with instant appeal, showing resplendent flash that beams from the mirrors, contrasted by the heavily frosted raised elements. Closer inspection of the glossy planchet reveals a number of intriguing hallmark--noticeable doubling in the obverse legend, what appears to be evidence of a clashed die on the reverse near the date, and a possible strike-through on the crowned arms. Likely wiped long ago as is observed by the faint hairlines, however a coin of impressive originality that bears the coveted "plus" for technical precision.
