George III bronzed copper Bank of England Proof Pattern 5 Shilling-6 Pence 1811 PR65 Brown NGC, by I. Philip, ESC-206, L&S-129. Struck on a thick planchet with plain edge type K/5A. Obv. Laureate and draped bust of George III left. Rev. BANK-TOKEN-5 S. 6 D.-1811, in wreath. Superbly struck, with even chocolate-brown patina and an underlying lustrous reddish tint. No flaws worthy of mention are noted. This is one of a variety of suggested denominations that were all abandoned after the war's conclusion, when the normal Crown was made again for George III in 1818. This piece is of the medal-rotation die-alignment sort. Ex. St. James Auction 18, October 2012, Lot 329.
