George IV Crown 1821 MS66+ PCGS, Royal mint, KM680.1, S-3805, ESC-2311. SECUNDO edge. Inverted WWP under lance. This variety (with the WWP inverted) is noted as Rare by ESC, whereas the regular variety is listed as Common. The grading services, however, do not make a distinction between the two types in their census, but even when taking both types into consideration, this coin is tied with just one other at the MS66+ level for the finest graded example seen by either NGC or PCGS. Attractive light gray toning throughout, with significant remaining luster. The last time an graded example in such high grade crossed the auction block was when this coin last sold, in our January 2013 sale, where it sold for $10,575. We would not be surprised to see that mark significantly surpassed when it is sold again.
