Nicholas II copper Specimen Pattern Kopeck 1916 SP65 Brown PCGS, St. Petersburg mint, Bit-373 (R3), Brekke-2. Obv. Crowned double-headed eagle in circle of separated dots with wreath below. Rev. Large "1" in beaded circle with plain field, date above and value below. Boldly struck, with iridescent reddish-brown patina and traces of original golden mint color, mainly in the reverse legend. There are no notable imperfections on either the obverse, or reverse. An incredibly rare Pattern issue and the only example we have seen.
During World War I a series of Patterns were made for a proposed devalued currency. Because of the chaos created by the war, this new coinage was abandoned and the patterns disappeared. It has only been recently that the 1 Kopeck Patterns appeared. There are three types of the 1 Kopeck and only a very few pieces are known of the three combined types.
