George V gold Proof Sovereign 1923-SA PR66 PCGS, Pretoria mint, KM21, S-4004. Mintage: 655. An impressive premium-Gem survivor from this first proof set of British South Africa, preserved almost entirely tone-free, and possessing deep mirrors that result from decades of conscientious safekeeping. As one might expect from a proof, the central motifs remain impressively sharp and the dentils at the rims are fully formed. Without doubt, one of the finest survivors from the original 655 struck and presently tied for the technical finest graded at PCGS (with a single PR66 Cameo graded).
