This Lysimachus-type tetradrachm ialso bears the name of Scostocus, an otherwise unknown Thracian dynast of the early-mid third century BC. He was once thought to have been a successor to Lysimachus; now it is believed he was a local ruler permitted by Lysimachus to add his own name to his overlord's coinage. After the long, tumultuous reign of the Macedonian Lysimachus, Thrace reverted to the rule of dynasts from the powerful Odrysian tribe, who maintained a hold on the region until it became a Roman client kingdom in the 1st century BC.
