BACTRIA. Early Hellenistic era. Sophytes (?) (ca. 325/305-294 BC). AR hemidrachm (12mm, 1.77 gm, 6h). NGC AU★ 5/5 - 5/5. Head of Athena right wearing hoop earring and Attic helmet with three laurel leaves over brow plate, the bowl ornamented with vine scroll / Eagle standing left, head right. HGC 12, 10 variant (no vine with grape bunch in reverse field). Cf. SNG ANS 17-18 (same). See CNG E-Auction 304, lot 185 for another example sans control marks. Well struck from dies of pleasing style. Very rare, perhaps only the second published specimen with no reverse control.
