Belgian Congo Etat Independant du Congo 10 Francs 7.2.1896 Pick 1b. From the first series issued for Belgian Congo, which was then still called the Congo Free State (Etat Independant du Congo). An attractive cherub design is seen, but collectors should be aware of the elusiveness of any note issued under this name, as it competed with the par value Belgian Franc in circulation and subject to replacement by later issues of the Belgian Franc.
