The first of five India paper proofs from this important initial American Bank Note Company printed series. Uniface series with no backs. Engraved signatures. There were no individual impressions in the 1990 ABN sale and other known proofs from the series are from earlier sources. Salmon overprints with numerical and textual protectors. 50,000 issued notes authorized October 1862. The design layout is spectacular and well balanced with curved titles. The issued notes had stampings on their blank backs and were mostly payable in 1863. A bold and fresh impression. Uncirculated.
