COLOMBIA. Banco de Colombia. 100 Pesos, December 15, 1881. P-S388p. Archival Record Book Face and Back Proofs. Uncirculated.
This ranks as one of the great title and vignette combinations seen on all of Latin America. The highest denomination from this American Bank Note Company printed two-note series. This earlier series has a fully engraved date. 1,000 issued notes were authorized for printing in October 1881 and finding an issued note is next to impossible. The Columbus landing vignette at the center is impressive. Soft orange surrounds and deeper orange back. This gorgeous pair of proofs is quite striking together on the record book page. Though there were several proofs and specimen notes in the 1990 ABN sale, there was only this unique record book page in this format. Uncirculated.
From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Paper Money.
Estimate: $750.00- $1500.00
